Seniors Helping Seniors, LLCCherokee County, GA

We were retired. We got restless.

Seniors Helping Seniors, LLC is a small group of retired people here in Cherokee County who decided that being done with work was not the same as being done being useful.

Most of us spent thirty or forty years working, raising children here, and then found ourselves with more free time than we knew what to do with. We also watched friends and neighbors start to struggle in ways that were easy to miss — a husband who quietly stopped driving, a widow who stopped cooking for herself, a woman who had not had a real conversation in a week.

There is no shortage of agencies that will send a stranger with a badge. What we offer is something simpler and, we think, better: someone from the same generation, who remembers the same music and the same old Cherokee County, who knows what it feels like to need a little help and to hate asking for it.

That common ground is the whole thing. It is why our visits do not feel like caregiving. They feel like company — and the help gets done along the way, almost without anyone noticing.

We are caring seniors wanting to pay it forward.

What we believe about this work

Nobody should have to leave home for company

Most older people want to stay in their own house, with their own things, on their own street. That is a reasonable thing to want, and it usually takes less help than families expect.

A peer is different from a professional

Our caregivers are not clinicians and do not pretend to be. They are people who lived through the same decades, raised families here, and understand not wanting to be fussed over.

The family is part of this too

The adult child in another state and the exhausted spouse are not bystanders. If we are not keeping them informed, we are not doing the job properly.

Doing it together beats doing it for someone

We fold the laundry with them, we cook with them, we take the walk with them. Being useful and being company turn out to be the same thing.

Curious whether we are the right fit?

The honest answer is that we are not right for everyone, and we will tell you when we are not. If your loved one needs skilled nursing, wound care, physical therapy or help with transfers, that is a different kind of service and we will say so plainly and point you toward it.

If what they need is company, a ride they can count on, real meals, a hand around the house, and someone to gently keep the medication schedule their doctor already set — that is exactly what we do, and we have been doing it for neighbors across Cherokee County, GA and nearby towns.

Call and ask. Talking it through costs nothing, and you will get a straight answer either way.
